“You sunk my battleship!” A classic game played with pencil and paper on these free printable Battleship board game templates! Play with friends and family for a fun battle to see who sinks the most ships to win.
I remember playing Battleship as a kid and it was always so fun to play against my brothers and sisters. We would especially loved to play on long car rides or when the weather was bad.
Now as a mom, I’m always looking for things that my kids can do without being on a device or in front of a screen. We all know that kids need less screen time, but mine act like they don’t know what to do when the screens go off. That’s why I’ve been working on printable games to play with pencil and paper like this Battleship game and Dots and Boxes.
Kids can still play games that are really fun without being on a screen!
These Battleship board game templates can be played with a pencil and paper or you can laminate them and use dry erase markers to play. Either way, I seriously love that I don’t have to search all over the house for the pieces so that we can actually play the game.
How do you play a printable Battleship?
Printable Battleship is played the same way as the regular Battleship board game. All you need for the Battleship printable board game template is pencil and 2 prints of the boards.
Each board has a grid for the “opponent” and a grid for “myself.”
The grid you use for yourself is where you will place all of your battleships.
- Aircraft Carrier – AAAAA
- Battleship – BBBB
- Cruiser – CCC
- Submarine – SSS
- Destroyer – DD
Each letter will go into one box adjacent to each other.
The opponents grid is where you will record your firing and hits on their ships.
For the official rules check out these Rules for Battleship from the game maker Milton Bradley.
What is the best Battleship placement?
The best battleship placement strategy is to have your battleships with at least 1-2 spaces between each. You should also have one or two ships along the edge of the grid. Most players tend to start firing towards the middle of the board. Placing a ship on the outside edge of the grid will let you have one battleship that is hard to find. Be careful not to place all your ships on the edge because your opponent will recognize your pattern and it will be easier to sink your ships.
