How to Make a Homemade Hot Chocolate Gift

SUPPLIES:

  • Hot Cocoa Tags
  • Hot Cocoa Bomb or Hot Cocoa Mix
  • Container (mason jar, coffee mug, plastic baking bag)
  • Bakers Twine or Ribbon
  • Hole Punch

DIRECTIONS:

First print and cut out your hot cocoa free gift tags.

Choose your container to gift the hot chocolate mix. You could use a cute mug, mason jar, or a simple baker’s gift bag. I grabbed my clear plastic bags from Hobby Lobby, but you can find them at any craft store or even Walmart or Dollar Tree.

Next choose the type of hot chocolate mix you want to use. Hot cocoa bombs are really popular and fun to use for making chocolate, but you could go the traditional route and add hot cocoa powder mix. This time of year you can find fancy hot chocolate mixes or a high quality hot chocolate bomb at TJ Maxx and Home Goods. I actually picked my hot cocoa bombs up at Target and my kids loved them.

Now it’s time to add in different toppings on top of the cocoa bomb or hot chocolate powder mix. I kept it simple and only added mini marshmallows, but you can check out our list of fun toppings to add into your hot cocoa gift for more ideas.

Once you’ve got all the toppings added into the container it’s time to tie off the top of the bag or close the mason jar.

Side Note: If you are using a coffee mug you should put the hot cocoa ingredients in a bag and then place the bag in the coffee mug.

Make your gift tags personal by adding a little note to the back of the gift tag before you attach it to the package. A handwritten note is special and kind of rare these days!

Make sure you cut out the individual little labels. Then using your hole punch place a hole at the top of the tag. You can put the hole in the center or on the left corner of the tag. At the top of the bag attach one of these cute printable gift tags using ribbon or bakers twine.

For the finishing touch tie a knot or bow with the ribbon or bakers twine.

More Ideas to Add in Hot Cocoa Homemade Gifts

There are so many fun toppings that you can add to your hot cocoa gift! I kept my hot cocoa gifts simple by adding a hot cocoa bomb and mini marshmallows. But there are so many amazing toppings that make hot cocoa even better! The best part is you can find all of these ingredients at the grocery store.

  • Candy Canes
  • Peppermint sticks
  • Peppermint spoon
  • Plastic Spoons or Stir Straws
  • Salted Caramel Chips
  • White Chocolate Chips

Hot Chocolate Recipe

The directions are really simple for making hot chocolate! Whether you are using a hot cocoa bomb or you use a hot cocoa powder the directions will be the same.

Place the hot chocolate bomb or powder in a heat safe mug. In a separate container heat milk or water for 90 seconds in the microwave.

Then pour the hot water or hot milk over the chocolate powder or chocolate bomb. The basic idea is that the hot chocolate bomb will melt from the hot liquid. Stir the chocolate as it melts, then add your favorite toppings!
