We love an easy Easter craft that everyone can do! This Easter stained glass craft is a beautiful craft that can be used as Easter decorations. It’s also a great craft activity to go along with a lesson about the meaning of the cross during the Easter season. 

This stained glass cross window decoration is a simple craft that looks great hanging in the windows or sliding glass doors of your home, church, or school. This Easter craft is a really fun way to decorate for the Easter season. 

It’s also a great way for kids to be creative as they decorate their own Easter cross suncatcher. 

Easter Cross Suncatcher Craft

This Easter Cross Suncatcher craft is easy to make! I especially love that all the supplies are simple things that you probably have around the house if you are even a little bit creative. 

SUPPLIES:

• Stained Glass Cross Template Free Printable
• Black Glue 
• Sharpies in different colors
• Clear Plastic (clear plastic from an empty container, sheet protector, or plastic folder)

What is black glue and how do you make it at home? 

Black glue, sometimes referred to as Goth Glue,  is a mix of Elmer’s glue and black acrylic paint. You mix the two ingredients together in the glue bottle. Then you use the nozzle of the glue bottle to create designs with the black glue. 

Black glue flows out of the glue bottle in a thick and steady flow. It dries puffy or slightly raised just like glue does. 

Black glue or Goth glue is great for art projects and craft projects! 

Easy Recipe for Black Glue

• Grab a new glue bottle. Pour the excess glue into a container. I used a plastic container with a lid, so that I could save the glue for use later.
• Pour one part  black acrylic paint to one part Elmer’s glue. I poured out half of my glue from the glue bottle and then filled the glue bottle up with the black acrylic paint.
• Mix together with a wooden skewer. You could also just close the bottle and shake to mix the paint together.
• Open the nozzle and test to see if the black glue is working.

Now you are ready to make fun black glue art! 

How to Make an Easter Cross Suncatcher Craft

Print out the printable stained glass cross pattern or any cross pattern you choose to use. I chose the mosaic cross template because it closely resembles a stained glass cross.

Place the printed stained glass cross template under the clear plastic. You can tape it in place so that it stays put and doesn’t move around.

Use the black glue to trace the outline of the mosaic cross template. 

Let the black glue dry for a couple of hours or longer until it is totally dry.

Once the black glue is dry, you are ready to color using the Sharpie markers. You will color in the mosaic shapes of the cross template on the clear plastic.

After you finish coloring, let the marker dry for a few minutes. Now it is time to cut the stained glass cross out. You do not need to cut very close to the black glue lines. It is ok to leave a small edge around the Cross shape. The clear plastic is translucent and it won’t affect the way you see it when it hangs in the window.

Use double sided tape to hang them in the windows!
