These simple star Christmas decorations are a great addition to a rustic farmhouse Christmas!

Make this easy 3 dimensional paper star ornament using the free downloadable template. It’s a great Christmas project for kids and adults!

How to Make a Star Stencil

You can make a simple star stencil by printing a star from these printable star templates. Choose a size between 1 inch stars up to a 12 inch star.

Print your star template on card stock paper, then cut out the star stencil. Use this star to trace onto decorative card stock or onto light cardboard paper. I turned my Amazon boxes into Christmas star decorations!

Easy Christmas Star Decorations

SUPPLIES:

DIRECTIONS:

1. Start by printing out the star template onto card stock paper and cut out with scissors. I chose to use the 5 inch star template for my project.

2. Trace 2 stars onto cardboard.

3. Use an xacto knife to cut out the star. Always start from the corner and cut away from the center of the star.

4. On the first star use a pencil to trace a 2 inch line from the middle point of the star from the top to the center of the star. Then on the second trace a 3 inch line from the bottom middle of the star to the center of the star. Use the xacto knife to cut the lines on each star.

PRO TIP: Your cuts need to equal the height of the star you are using. Make sure to measure your star before making cuts. If you choose a 5″ star one star slit should be 3 inches long and the other should be 2 inches long totaling 5 inches. If you use a 7 inch star, the slit would be 4 inches long and the other star slit would be 3 inches long totaling 7 inches.

6. Decorate the stars or leave them the natural cardboard color for a more rustic look. You could also let kids decorate the stars with paint, markers, crayons, or what ever else you have on hand.

7. Now slide the stars together at the slits to make a 3D star. You may need to use your hot glue gun to keep the stars from slipping out of place.

PRO TIP: I slid my ruler into the slits to make it easier to slide the stars together.

8. Add a hole to the top of the star. Use a hole punch or even a small nail to create the hole.

9. Now thread your decorative twine or clear fishing line through the hole and hang. I hung these stars with clear fishing line and hung them from the ceiling!

Where to Hang 3D Star Christmas Ornaments

These 3D star paper ornaments are so festive. I hung my 3D stars from the ceiling in the kitchen above my sink. I wanted the kitchen to feel more Christmas-y and these 3D stars were the perfect simple rustic Christmas decor!

You can of course hang the 3D stars on your Christmas tree or use them as 3D star garland for the mantle.

How do you plan to use your 3D stars this Christmas?
